Hi All, here are some pics of Nathaniel receiving his Gold
Duke of Ed at Government House today, presented by the governor general Anand Satyanand and his wife Susan. There were many young people gaining their DOE and Queen Scout awards and Queen Guide awards, a beautiful ceremony and a lovely morning tea taken in the immaculate, expansive grounds of the house.
Naturally Louise and I are very proud of Nathaniel’s achievement, there is required a great deal of commitment and perseverance to acquire what is recognized internationally as the top award for youth.
In the new term I will be stepping up to take on the roll of venture leader at New Lynn Scouts in response to the retirement of long serving leader Gemma Wood. My previous experience being pretty much focused on the younger scouts, I am looking forward to the challenge of working with the older age group and helping them through their Queen Scout award.
Hi All!
This is a reminder that we have a leaders meeting 6:30 – 7:00pm followed by a committee meeting 7:00 – 8:30pm this Thursday (11th Oct) at the Scout Hall.
I think that an important issue we need to sort at this committee meeting is how we are going to go about getting new members for the committee to replace out going members, and how we attract parents to assist with various roles in the day to day running of the group (i.e. to take on tasks without needing to be on the committee).
I think we need to prepare a short Document that lists the purpose of the Committee (management of Group assets and policy), outlining the key roles and whats involved in each. To compliment this we need a list of all other tasks that need doing throughout the year, so that we can advertise them for someone to take ownership of them, i.e. lawns, garage sales, lions book sales, cleaning toilets etc.
Can you all please give some thought to these topics so that we can draft a doc on Thursday evening.
