Keas In Action

The rain doesn't stop our Kea's getting outdoors to earn their Keas in Action Badge.

At the Kea level the aim is to have heaps of fun and introduce you to a range of outdoor experiences where you can start to gain some confidence and a love of the outdoor adventure playground that we live in.

Activities range from exploring the environment, bush walks, family boating days, camping, camp fires, canoeing, art and craft, conservation, using Hobo stoves…

The Kea motto is:
I Share, I Care, I Discover, I Grow.’

Te Kī Taurangi Kea
(Our Kea Promise)
ka tohatoha ahau,
ka manaaki ahau,
ka kite ahau,
ka whanake ahau.

Meeting Times and Location

Our Keas meet on a Monday and Tuesday night at the New Lynn Scout Hall on Margan Avenue, typically from 5:30-6:30pm. You can choose to join either the Monday or Tuesday night troop. During the summer the start times and location may vary a little as we chase the tides when doing boating activities.
Weekly meetings coincide with the normal school terms.

Joining

We recommend that you come along to 2 consecutive trial meetings to meet everyone and give it a go.
Please email enrolments@newlynn.seascouts.org.nz to arrange to come along for the first time to confirm the meeting time and location as these can vary depending on the activity planned for the evening (for some sections we have a waiting list, that's how fun it is).
You can enrol on the activity after the first meeting and receive one more free trial night https://enrolmy.com/new-lynn-sea-scout-group.
Once you enrol you will be on our email list and receive the communications for the next week's activity.
Then if you want to join, please revisit the activity you had the free trial in and book the rest of the term plus let one of your leaders know and they will arrange to invest you as a member of Scouts NZ. You will need to buy a uniform shirt as part of becoming an invested member.

Uniform

The Uniform shirt we wear is the Blue Scout shirt. These can be purchased online at https://scoutsdirect.co.nz/collections/general-uniforms-and-clothing/products/sea-scouts-uniform-keas-through-to-leaders?variant=2745951387661.
You will be provided with a Group Scarf, woggle and membership badges when you are invested as a member (The investiture fee is a one-off of $20).

Kea Leaders

Andrew, Padma and Nicole (Monday Night)
Andrew, Carlos (Tuesday Night)
The leaders are often assisted by the Scouts and Venturers.

DO WHAT IS RIGHT
We ask everyone to have respect for themselves and others, as well as the environment. We use this commitment to ensure our members have strong positive working relationships and understand how they connect to the environment.
HAVE RESPECT
We ask everyone to commit to being trustworthy and tolerant, and to having integrity. For young people this means always doing the ‘right thing’. This value is about encouraging personal responsibility and broader citizenship.
BE POSITIVE
Finally, we ask members to commit to accepting challenges with courage and to be a friend to all. This focuses on helping members use bravery to face tough times, as well connecting with people from different communities.
